Altered Index Cards

Happy New Year's Eve! The year is almost over, and I'm looking forward to a better year in 2014. :) I've come up with some Altered Index Cards that I made, after I saw a vague reference to some on Pinterest. I've always liked the look of journaling cards on pages that look like lined school paper, but never could figure out how to make that happen. Then, thanks to Pinterest, I figured it out! I COULD spend money to buy a set of 6 cards thru Etsy that have been printed and such, OR, me being the DIY-er in an effort to make it myself and save the money - I'll make them myself! So I started with some 4x6 lined index cards. I found a big pack of them at the Dollar Tree - 100 in a pack for $1! Can't beat that value! :D

I trimmed them down to 3x4 - standard size for Project Life cards, BTW ;). Although these are not a true 4x6, they're more like 3.75 x6, but that still works - the extra can be matted on a solid CS and made to fit a 3x4. Anywho.... On some of them I punched holes along the side to make it look like a true piece of school paper. All you have to do next is add embellishments. Scraps of paper are nice, but washi is even better! :D You can also use mini alpha stickers or stamps to add to to the top and get to journaling from there. AND, if you don't want the lines on the front, flip them over for a plain white space on the back - still a great journaling spot and the possibilities are endless! The ones shown here are all going in my December Daily album.

I also love altering and embellishing journaling cards/cutaparts that come from 12x12 or Project Life cards. Here I have a 4x6 from the Simple Stories' Handmade Holiday 12x12 piece. I trimmed it down to about a 4x5, and added some enamel dots where the holly berries are, plus a banner from a scrap of paper that coordinates with the rest of my December Daily album. I added some twine wrapped around the top with a button and tied in a bow, then added a Christmas tree (with a washi tape trunk!). Then I added some journaling about this December Daily book, and it is an extra page insert between pages in the book, at the beginning.

and here is a completed page for my December Daily using my journaling card/tag that I made. I'm submitting this for a challenge over at The Studio Challenges. I rounded the edges, inked the sides, added a Christmas tree with trunk, extra washi decoration, and a "Ho ho ho" I cut out of a piece of PP. Then I added some twine thru the holes I punched on the left and tied with a bow.

Thanks for looking!

Summer Lovin' - Sketch Challenge

I just recently discovered the Let's Get Sketchy blog, and they have some fabulous sketch challenges over there! So I saw this sketch, which I had actually seen on Pinterest as well. These are pics of us at a local splash pad/water park this summer. I had to buy a new swimsuit to go because I finally hit my 50 lbs lost mark just a week or two before this, so my old swimsuit no longer fit me. I was excited to show it off, and we had a blast cooling off in the hot summer sun!

This is such a fun sketch so I got to work straight away on some fun pics from this Summer. They were printed 4x6 so I trimmed them down to about a 3 x 4.5 size picture. I used some fun Pool themed paper I found as a background, and used some distressed Echo Park orange & white paper as a great mat for the pictures. All the other papers are from Hobby Lobby. I used alphas and the sun embelly from my stash. I also cut out the arrows/chevrons from scraps of papers. Thanks for looking!

December Daily Cover

I've decided to do my first ever December Daily this year. I've been gathering papers/paper packs, bits and pieces, and embellishments from all over. Things I've found on sale, or stuff even from my stash that will go nicely. I've also done my research on Pinterest (check out my Dec Daily board). ;) I could spend hours (and have!) on there!! So I've finally gotten my cover page done.
I'm sooooo pleased with how this turned out! This is my first year doing a DD, and I've combined 2 paper lines primarily - Simple Stories Handmade Holiday and Heidi Swapp Believe. I'll also be using some leftovers of stuff I have from Echo Park Tis the Season. (all available at www.acherryontop.com of course ;) I just love the deep, rich reds with the muted earthy greens, combined with the kraft and black/chalkboard. My favorite Christmas lines by far. For this cover, I've combined a little bit of this and that - papers from Heidi Swapp, with a Simple Stories Bingo card. Twine (Queen & Co.) from my stash that coordinates perfectly. DIY Thickers with bright red glitter, and some red rhinestone strips (from Hobby Lobby) on the edge of the thick satin red ribbon from my stash. A red bling star on the Bingo card completes the shiny red theme. And I added some Jingle bells from a bracelet that I just bought the other day that was too small for my wrist, so it became fodder for my scrapping needs! And it adds movement and whimsy. I just want to frame this and look at it forever...

Collect $200

This is a layout I completed for 2 challenges over at www.acherryontop.com, and I used a sketch from the blog over at www.scrapbooksteals.com for their #MidWeekMojo sketch challenge series. The subject matter challenges were to document and journal about a holiday tradition/memory. This layout was incredibly fun to make and I got creative with my embellishments! We bought the Monopoly electronic version some years back (before the circular one) and it was the US Cities version. So I scanned the blue cards (Boardwalk/ParkPlace) and printed them out, then colored in with colored pencil. Then I printed and colored some houses, and found some images for Free Parking and Go, printed those and colored in. I had so much fun making this one, and it definitely documents all the fun we typically have playing games every year after Christmas or Thanksgiving. Do you have a layout that was especially fun to create?

Scrapper, Interrupted

Hello and welcome! I have been considering starting a blog, so now I'm finally taking the plunge. Welcome to Scrapper, Interrupted. A blog that will document one of my favorite pasttimes - scrapbooking - but also other passions in my life that provide inspiration for my scrapbooking habit! Sometimes I'll post about scrapbooking, layouts I've made, challenges I've completed, etc. Other times I'll post about other subjects - endeavors to be creative and crafty, my new challenge to myself to learn more about professional photography, my children, weight loss, or anything else I feel inspired about! Interruptions in a scrapper's and mom's life! Some weeks there will be several blog posts in one week (especially at the beginning as I choose to get caught up sharing things I want others to see!) and other weeks there may only be one. Welcome! Stop by and say hello! Come back to visit often as there will be additions and new things as I work on tweaking and adding stuff to my page :)
